Additional lab activities - now titled Fitness and Wellness Lab Activities have been added and now appear at the end of each chapter. By increasing the total to 28
fitness and health assessments the user has more opportunity for personal assessment and application. The Nutrition and Weight Control information in Chapters 9 and 10 has been
updated to include the USDA food Guide Pyramid, fast foods, new information on factors that lead to obesity, new guidelines on lowering weight, and updated information on cholesterol and antioxidants. The benefits of regular exercise have been added to Chapter 1 and the basic principles for beginning a fitness
program have been updated and added to Chapter 2 motivation, ensuring students know and understand the basics before starting up a personal fitness program. Critical health concerns have been updated throughout, such as osteoporosis, anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, hypertension, lower back pain, the relationship of cancer with nutrition, and stress with coronary heart disease. This helps students to realise that fitness is more than looking good and it addresses important health problems. The popular activity, in-line skating, has been added to the endurance program showing that fitness activities should be those that are enjoyable and that along with popularity comes numerous safety concerns.
